Ai (Autopsy imaging)

The Autopsy Imaging of the Center for Cause of Death Investigation, in collaboration with the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Hokkaido University Hospital, started a system of CT scan and pathological anatomy for patients who decease at our hospital. Cases of CT scan and pathological anatomy at death are subject to case study, or CRPC (clinico-radiological-pathological conference). The Center cooperates with the Division of Hospital Safety Management of Hokkaido University Hospital, to examine the CT scan at death and investigate each case, if the Medical Accident Investigation System applies. On February 1, 2018, we started accepting external requests for CT diagnostic imaging at death to share our knowledge with other medical institutions and to make contributions to the community.

Autopsy imaging (Ai) requires knowledge about postmortem changes and changes in post-resuscitation care, etc. which is not related to ordinary diagnostic imaging. We are directing special effort into Ai education in the School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Medicine to train future specialists.

We hope to accumulate more images and autopsy data and combine Ai with AI (artificial intelligence) to enhance our academic contribution in this area.
